This unit assesses the learner’s ability to create professional hair setting services that achieve volume, direction, texture, and curl through a practical assessment observed by an assessor.

Prior to assessment, learners must provide evidence of two full head hair set services, demonstrating at least three different roller placements and incorporating techniques such as finger waves, pin curls, and placement, as recorded in their training record book.

The practical assessment includes:

  • Finger waves and pin curls performed on a mannequin, using vertical or horizontal techniques to the crest line, with structured wave patterns and a variety of pin curl types and directions.

  • A full head fashion set on a client or model using rollers, reflecting current trends and incorporating multiple base and placement techniques to create balanced volume, movement, texture, and/or curl.

Learners are assessed on correct product selection, technical accuracy, control, time management, and the ability to achieve a high standard of finish, with smooth, well-balanced results that meet industry expectations.
