This unit assesses the learner’s ability to blow-dry and style hair to a professional salon standard through four practical assessments observed by an assessor.
Learners must provide prior evidence of competency using a range of styling techniques, including radial (short and long hair), Denman, scrunch, freehand, vent, and paddle brushing, as recorded in their training record book.
All practical assessments are completed on a client or model and require effective client communication, correct preparation of the hair, control throughout the service, and the ability to produce an agreed style with a high-quality finish.
The assessments include:
-
Radial styling on short or long hair, demonstrating control, volume, root lift, and curl within a set time
-
Denman, paddle, or vent brushing on a solid form haircut to achieve smoothness, control, and volume
-
Scrunch or freehand styling to create defined curls, shape, and volume without frizz
Learners are assessed on technique, time management, hair control, and overall finish to industry expectations.
